Suzuki unveils first electric SUV to be renamed Toyota

The Japanese company Suzuki has finally introduced its first all-electric car. Suzuki on Monday unveiled in Europe the e Vitara, a global electric SUV that will soon join the Toyota arrangement.

Toyota and Suzuki are teaming up to keep pace with the industry’s shift to electric vehicles. two expanded their alliance last month, announcing Suzuki’s plans to supply Toyota with a new global electric SUV.

The new SUV is designed “purely as a BEV” based on a new platform jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota and Daihatsu Motor.

With the unveiling of the e Vitara on Monday, Suzuki has given us a better idea of ​​what to expect. Suzuki’s new electric car is based on eVX conceptunveiled at the Auto Expo in India in January last year.

Suzuki said the electric SUV’s design, based on the “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” concept, “combines a sense of advanced technology and power.” The electric vehicle is equipped with a new special HEARTECT-e platform and transmission that provides agility and sharp driving.

Suzuki’s new powertrain uses eAxle (with electric motor and inverter) and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.

Suzuki unveils electric SUV to join Toyota lineup

The platform, developed specifically for electric vehicles, provides passengers with a spacious interior. Suzuki’s electric SUV also features the ‘ALLGRIP-e’ all-wheel drive system for off-road capability and enhanced performance.

Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki said the company will “continue to expand its BEV lineup and offer mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions.”

With a length of 4275 mm, a width of 1800 mm, a height of 1635 mm and a wheelbase of 2700 mm, the e Vitara is approximately the size of New EV3 from Kia (length 4300 mm, width 1850 mm, height 1560 mm, wheelbase 2680 mm).

Although the official range has not yet been released, the electric SUV will be available with 49 and 61 kWh battery sizes. Suzuki said last January that the concept would offer a range of up to 342 miles (550 km).

Suzuki will begin production of the new electric SUV at its Gujarat plant in India in spring 2025, where it will also supply Toyota. Sales will begin in Europe, India and Japan around summer 2025.
