Did Jaguar’s Doug Pederson just lay the blame?

Halfway through the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to find their identity. This caused problems for the team all season. Initially, these problems only affected the offensive side of the ball. The failure to establish identity became a problem for the battered team.

After nine games, the Jaguars weren’t performing very well. Each week there is a draw for the Jaguars as they have looked good in their two wins. Over the past five weeks, a much improved Jaguars team has played better.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson doesn’t think much about the team’s identity. When asked about this after the team’s disappointing 28-23 loss, Pederson felt there was little that could be done about the team’s lack of identity midway through the season.

He made it clear that he plans to do the same, regardless of the record.

“I’m not one to settle on that,” Pederson said. “I’m going to keep working. I’m going to continue to challenge the players and we have to get better. So I’m not going to dwell on the fact that, you know, it’s obvious that it is what it is.

“We’re going to roll up our sleeves and get to work and try to keep this going and try to fix it already. Let me think. First down, second down, third down. I think we just need to coach better.”

After nine games, each team has an identity, even if they don’t like it. While Pederson may not want to decide whether the team has an identity, unfortunately, they already have one. At 2-7, the Jaguars have undoubtedly established themselves as one of the worst teams in the league.

They expected much more from their crime than they received. Internally, they believed they had made the right expectations to improve defensively. However, this did not happen for various reasons.

The Jaguars may need to continue their search for identity, but that doesn’t seem likely to happen this season. Depending on how the front office views Pederson’s future, finding a 2-7 identity may not be viable.
