Woman pleads guilty to murder of Asia Cowell, who was killed before testifying in the case

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — More than four years after a Granby High School student was killed, a third person has gone to trial in connection with the crime.

17-year-old Asia Cowell was killed in 2020. Police believe she was lured to a home in Norfolk, kidnapped, driven to Newport News, then shot and left in a wooded area.

Three people have been charged in connection with the murder.

Daja Feaster pleaded guilty Monday in Newport News District Court. Feaster is the sister of the man accused of raping Cowell. She was going to testify against him, but she never got the chance to speak.

Virginia woman pleads guilty to murder of 17-year-old girl

Fister was just under 18 years old at the time of the murder. Judge Matthew Hoffman asked her, “Do you understand that this is a Class 2 felony and carries a minimum penalty of 20 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison if you are sentenced as an adult?” Fister calmly replied, “Yes.”

Her sentencing is scheduled for February 7, 2025.

Two others have been charged in connection with Cowell’s death. Devin Albritton was sentenced to 50 years in prison with 11 years suspended, increasing his time to serve to 39 years, according to court records. Albritton’s wife, Crystal Kaiser-Albritton, was sentenced to life in prison for Cowell’s murder.

Bail refused for Norfolk woman accused of murdering teenager

The Commonwealth’s Attorney told Judge Feaster that he cooperated with law enforcement and provided information regarding the Albrittons’ involvement.

Her lawyer said a doctor will testify about her psychological evaluation at sentencing.
