DANVILLE — A Chicago man was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Malik Brown, 25, was sentenced for leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

On Dec. 7, Rossville Police notified Danville Police that they were pursuing a vehicle with two stolen license plates heading south toward Danville.

Several Danville officers joined the pursuit and the suspect vehicle reached speeds of approximately 85 mph on Vermilion Street while running numerous stop signs.

The vehicle ended up driving through the backyard of a residence where it struck a deck and retaining wall before coming to rest.

The driver, later identified as Brown, and a front-seat passenger exited the vehicle and led officers on a foot pursuit. Both were detained.

The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen. The passenger was subsequently charged and his case is pending.

Brown was also sentenced to one year of mandatory supervised release upon release from prison.
