Local Democrats and Republicans reflect on the final hours before the election.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The Fresno County Board of Elections was working hard Monday to process mail-in votes and early voting ahead of Tuesday.

Clerk and Registrar of Voters James Cas says they receive more than 10,000 mail-in ballots a day.

Part of what drives people to the polls are the groups and organizations working to get out the vote.

“There are a lot of important issues on the ballot, both locally and statewide,” said Nav Gurm, former president of the Fresno County Young Democrats.

Gurm canvassed Central Valley counties, noting our region’s importance to the balance of power in Washington, DC.

“This is where the majority in the House of Representatives comes through: through the Central Valley with the CA-22 race, the CA-13 race with Congressman John Duarte and Adam Gray,” Gurm said.

All eyes are on this race, which is close to a rematch.

“Certainly Congressman Duarte’s race is an important one,” said Liz Kolstad, chairwoman of the Fresno County Republican Party.

“Locally we also have a supervisor race for Bredefeld and Brandau, so those are the ones we will be looking at.”

Over the past few months, local Republicans and Democrats have been knocking on doors and making phone calls urging people to vote.

Both sides now wait to see how things go tomorrow, when turnout is expected to be high throughout the day until polls close at 8 p.m.
