Queen Camilla is suffering from a respiratory tract infection, Palace reports

Queen Camilla has pulled out of a number of planned engagements this week due to a respiratory infection, Buckingham Palace said.

No further details about her illness or treatment have been released, but it is believed that she is resting at home under medical supervision.

The Duchess of Gloucester will speak on behalf of the Queen at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

The Queen will also not attend the Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, which will be hosted by King Charles later in the evening.

The palace statement said: “Her Majesty the Queen is currently unwell due to a respiratory tract infection and has therefore been advised by her doctors to take a short period of rest,” a palace spokesman said.

“It is therefore with great regret that Her Majesty has had to cancel her engagements this week, but she is very hopeful that she will recover in time to attend the memorial events this weekend as normal.”
