Matt Reeves confirms plans for new Batman spin-offs

Next Batmanhugely successful theatrical production, director Matt Reeves has announced that a number of small screen spin-offs are in development, including Penguinseries “Gotham Vice” and a project dedicated to the infamous Arkham Asylum.

Only one of them eventually moved forward(Penguin season finale airs next week), but executive producer Dylan Clark recently revealed that there are early plans for another show set in Batman’s Epic Crime Saga, and Reeves confirmed that new shows are being discussed.

Andy Serkis (Alfred) asked Reeves if there will be a second season Penguin on the maps, or is he planning to take us “to Gotham through a different lens” by talking to the director InterviewMagazine.com.

“We’ve been talking and it’s great because people are now interested in the series. My fantasy is coming to life and it’s very exciting, and HBO has been incredibly supportive from the beginning. , really interesting. We talked about doing other shows. I wanted to make sure that we weren’t doing an origin story like a lot of other shows have been, I think this is an opportunity to put a lens on it. these characters are a really exciting idea. It’s about cities and their dysfunction, about the world and its dysfunction, which is what all Batman stories are about. They’re all about how Gotham needs to be better, and you can have that experience. this almost novel-like epic crime saga, but you also get these individual experiences. They have their own dramatic value, so Oz’s story is Oz’s story, and the idea is to do other stories in the same way.”

Reeves didn’t mention any specific characters, but he previously hinted that one possibility could be a legal drama centered around Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face.

Reeves also spoke about the freedom to create Penguin a little more adult oriented after being somewhat “handcuffed” while working on Batman.

“It’s interesting because the Batman movie has enormous resources, so we can do some pretty big things, but we’re handcuffed in other ways. When we were dealing with the ratings board, they said, “You need to push this and that back.” But those handcuffs have been removed from HBO. This gave us the opportunity to really flesh out the characters. Even the way Oz can be so deliciously raunchy. Now that we’re working on the film, it can’t be the same. free of profanity. There’s a great tone to the way Colin does it, so we need to find the right balance.”
