ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A group of fifth-graders marched through downtown Rochester on Monday to remind people to vote.

Genesee Community Charter School students marched down Park and East avenues. Becky Mason, a fifth-grade teacher at the charter school, explains why this mattered to students.

“At first, some of them said, ‘We can’t do anything.’ we are just children. What should we do? But the other kids said, ‘No, even if we can get a few people to vote tomorrow, we’ll do our job,'” she said.

“I hope we convince at least three people,” said fifth-grader Ethan Seely Coleman.

Students also wrote letters to adults, such as bus drivers and relatives, urging them to get out and vote.
