Iowa Senate districts

The current Iowa Senate districts were drawn in a special legislative session at the end of 2021 and will run until 2031.

Iowa Senate:

The Iowa Senate represents half of the Iowa legislature. The Iowa House and Senate together represent Iowa’s legislative branch of government. The Senate has the power to pass laws and set the state budget. Elected senators are responsible for passing public policy bills, setting government spending levels, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes. Senators are also responsible for approving agency appointments made by the governor.

The Senate consists of 50 members representing individual Iowa districts. All senators are elected to staggered four-year terms in even and odd districts.
