Tararua District Council warns Northwood residents to boil all drinking water

Tararua District Council warns Northwood residents to boil all drinking water

“Samples were taken online to determine free chlorine (FAC) levels and this was observed at various locations,” a council spokesman said.

A replacement part was received and was now installed with chlorine dosing to resume operation as soon as this was done.

As required by New Zealand’s water regulator, the council will need three days to receive clear test results before it can lift the boil water notice.

Meanwhile, Northwood residents must boil water before using it for drinking, making ice, cooking, brushing teeth and preparing baby formula.

Electric jugs with a switch can be used to keep city water safe to boil while full, and water boiled in a metal pan on the stove will be safe after boiling for one minute, the council said.

People with severely weakened immune systems, infants, pregnant women and some older adults may be at increased risk and should call Healthline or their doctor with specific concerns.
