Jonesboro mayoral race heads into runoff

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Jonesboro residents will have to head back to the polls to elect a mayor.

The four-person race ended too close to call between incumbent Harold Copenhaver and City Councilman Al. J. Bryant.

Unofficial results, according to the Craighead County Clerk’s Office:

  • Harold Copenhaver: 10,829 (44.11%)
  • LJ Bryant: 8,381 (34.14%)
  • Jeremy Terrell: 3,784 (15.41%)
  • Thomas Elwood: 909 (3.70%)

To avoid a runoff election, the leading contender must receive at least 40 percent of the vote and have 20 percent more votes than his closest opponent.

The second round of elections will take place on December 3.
