Gonzalez ranks fifth on the San Marcos City Council

Early voting results for the Nov. 5 election show Lorenzo Gonzalez leading the fifth seat on the San Marcos City Council. He is running against candidates Roland Saucedo, Atom von Arndt and Griffin Spell.

Gonzalez received 4,911 early votes for a 31.39% majority, unofficial election results in Hays County show. Saucedo, Von Arndt and Spell received 25.58%, 17.06% and 25.97% respectively.

According to Section 5.05 of the San Marcos City CharterThe candidate with the most votes for each position is elected. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, a runoff election will be held between the top two candidates. The second round will be scheduled 20 to 45 days after voting closes in the first election.

About the candidates

Griffin Spell is a management consultant whose relevant experience includes serving as Vice Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission and former Chairman of the Historic Preservation Commission. Roland Saucedo is a public affairs officer whose bid for Council Member 5 is focused on workforce, affordable housing, historic preservation and environmental issues. IN Questions and answers With Community influenceHe said he would serve as an advocate for the community if elected.

Atom von Arndt is a salesman who is currently an appointee of the San Marcos Main Street Advisory Council. IN Questions and answers With Community influencehe said he believes affordability is the biggest challenge facing San Marcos residents and that the needs of residents must come first.

Lorenzo Gonzalez is a school law enforcement officer with the Del Valle ISD Police Department. Gonzalez did not respond to requests to be included in the questionnaire before publication.

Incumbent Mark Gleason has held the position since 2020 and did not seek re-election.

Some context

In Hays County, 103,988 ballots were cast, about 56% of the county’s 186,492 registered voters, according to the Early Voting Center. Hays County Board of Elections.

Totals for ballots cast on November 5 have not yet been released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., but voters who were in line at 7 p.m. can still vote.
