“Woke up this morning with a dream… I went to bed with a nightmare.”

CNN political commentator Van Jones was on the verge of tears Tuesday night as the 2024 presidential election continued to elude the vice president. Kamala Harris.

“I’m thinking about the people who are not part of anyone’s elite who are hurting today,” Jones told his colleagues as a former president. Donald Trump came close to victory:

There are African American women who know a little about being talked down to, they know a little about how their economic dreams are being crushed, who have been trying to dream a big dream for the last few months, and tonight they are trading in a lot of hope for a lot of pain , and they hoped that maybe this time, this time, one of them would be worthy. Once again they face rejection, and it hurts.

They thought that tomorrow morning they would emerge with their shoulders back slightly, perhaps for the first time able to breathe and feel like they belonged somewhere. They’ve done everything they know how, and tomorrow will be harder than it should be to hold their heads up, and they’re not the only ones hurting today. If you are the parent of a transgender child, your child’s face has been used as a springboard for someone else’s power. It’s unpleasant.

He continued: “Tomorrow there will be people who will distribute clothes in dryers to people who do not have documents. Tomorrow there will be people who will brush your teeth who do not have documents. And today they are terrified.”

Jones concluded: “So it’s easy to dismiss it as, ‘Oh, look at the elite, they’re going to get their comeuppance.’ It will not be the elites who will pay the price. These are people who woke up this morning with a dream and go to bed with a nightmare.”

How Jones made his announcement, CNN election results tracker showed Trump with 246 electoral votes to Harris’ 187. The CNN tracker also showed Trump with 51.2% of the popular vote to Harris’ 47.2%.

Jones is no stranger to almost crying on live television. Just in July CNN commentator suffocated up twice over the president Joe Biden leaving the race. A few weeks earlier, Jones had been on the verge of tears when offering Biden should be replaced.

In November 2020, Jones also broken burst into tears after Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election.
