Nolensville voters pass referendum on wine sales in grocery stores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Voters in one Williamson County town passed a referendum on selling wine in grocery stores.

Nearly 90% of Nolensville voters approved the measure. Only 917 people voted against the referendum, while 7,424 people voted for the legal sale.

State lawmakers approved the measure about a decade ago, giving local municipalities the power to make their own decisions.

The process began with the collection of signatures as a sign of support.

Local leaders then had to approve the referendum to be placed on the ballot. From there, people spoke out and support for the move was overwhelming. Before the official results were in, the Tennessee Grocery and Convenience Store Association weighed in on the growing city’s protests.

“The people of Nolensville, by simply putting this on the ballot, have made it clear that they would like to purchase wine with their food, and we are very confident that they will make that decision tonight,” TN said. Rob Ikard of the Grocery and Convenience Store Association.

One of the main reasons for the push in Nolensville: Both Publix and Kroger plan to open new grocery stores there soon. These stores are expected to open within the next two years.

She carries on her husband’s legacy to raise money for Alzheimer’s research.

I am so inspired by Sheila Gunn’s love for her husband and her resilience. Anyone who has lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s disease knows how cruel the disease is—not only to the patient, but to those who love and care for them. Mike and Sheila clearly had a wonderful love story, and now she honors it in the most beautiful way. Thanks to Forrest Sanders for sharing his story.
