Ricochet explains why he and Samantha Irvin left WWE

Ricochet is one of the best fighters in professional wrestling in the ring. In a short time, his fiancee Samantha Irwin had already positioned herself as perhaps the greatest announcer the industry had ever seen.

Both recently left WWE for different reasons but the same concept. Ricochet and Irvin wanted to do more. Ricochet signed with All Elite Wrestling and debuted in August; Irvine last competed in WWE in October. Ricochet gave a very candid interview to Chris Van Vliet.

When you watch this, you wonder why this authentic version of Ricochet has never appeared with a microphone in his hand in WWE.

Van Vliet asked Ricochet why he left WWE and what made him choose AEW.

“I think there was a point three and a half years ago in my WWE career where I just said this is not what I want to do,” Ricochet said. “But I’m just going to do whatever they ask me to do, whatever they want me to do, whatever they want me to do, whoever they want me to lose to, or whatever move they need me to make it look like cool, or whatever. “I’ll just do it because I’m here and I want to put in the effort and show that I’m willing to do what they need to do to get other opportunities.”

Ricochet didn’t feel like he gained more than a hint of anything meaningful during his time in WWE. I always thought he would have done his best promo work if he had been more relaxed in front of the microphone. The ring situation was never a problem. He comes across as an interesting person with a sharp wit and some humor, but it feels like we’ve never seen anything like this in WWE.

“I feel like I was given a bone here or there and I was always on TV,” Ricochet said. “I was always on TV, so that was always nice, but I felt like it was always for Shinsuke (Nakamura), for Sami (Zayn), for Sheamus, for somebody else. This was never Ricochet’s story. Even with Logan (Paul), it was for Logan. They gave me some pieces, but it was really for Logan to move on to something else. Next week they might say, “Now we’re doing it.” So it’s always a chance, but at the end of the day I think I was really just trying to figure out where I was going to be. the happiest.”

Ricochet’s last feud in WWE was with Bron Breaker, a top-notch young performer but a guy who had a lot more experience. This concept disheartened him as he felt like he was starting over. When free agency opened, Ricochet listened to WWE but ultimately chose AEW because “at the time, I felt like AEW could be fuel for my fire. Being there makes me feel like I made the right choice.”

Irwin’s departure had also been in the works for some time.

According to Ricochet, Irwin wanted to be a character in WWE storylines and seemed to feel locked into being a ring announcer.

“For her, announcing was supposed to be a path into WWE just because she’s a fan first and foremost,” Ricochet said. “Before all this, she grew up with it. Her father watched it and her brothers grew up with it. So, of course, yes, she is an artist. So her performing and traveling around the world led her to a position where Mark Henry found her and said, “Oh, this girl is amazing, we need her for something.”

Irwin’s unique voice brought her to WWE, but she also trained to perform in the ring. According to Ricochet, Irwin has photographs of bruises she received while training in striking, hitting the ropes, etc. Irwin admittedthe ring work didn’t work. However, from a talent standpoint, Irwin is much more than just an announcer.

She has been acting most of her life, plays instruments and has a fantastic singing voice. Here’s a look at Irwin showing off more of her talents.

Combined with her screen presence and passion for professional wrestling, Irvin seems well-suited for a more significant role – a manager on par with MVP (who is now with AEW) and perhaps, at some point, one of the most powerful players . women in professional wrestling. This opportunity had not presented itself to her, at least not now.

Ricochet offered this perspective on Irvin’s situation, and given the context, he’s not wrong.

“That’s just my example, it’s like Mariah Carey, but she’s just an announcer and you don’t get anything else.”

We’ve learned that respect and opportunity in WWE sometimes comes when an artist leaves, validates himself and comes back with more money and fanfare than he ever had during his first run. This happened to Cody Rhodes and CM Punk.

It will be interesting to see if Ricochet and Irvin get the opportunity or are even interested in it.
