NBC’s Dateline will air an episode focusing on the incarcerated brothers. Lyle and Erik Menendez after Netflix released a controversial series about their parents’ 1989 murders and a documentary about their high-profile trial.

The two-hour special will highlight the latest developments in the 1993 trial of Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón. asks for mercy for the brothers. According to NBC, the special will include never-before-aired excerpts from Dateline NBC correspondent Keith Morrison’s 2017 interview with Lyle.

The episode, titled “The Menendez Brothers: A Chance for Freedom,” will also feature an interview with Gascón, a former police officer, discussing why he filed a motion to resentencing.

Last Thursday, Gascón sent letters to the governor of California. Gavin Newsome citing “credible statements” about sexual and physical violence from their father, wealthy music industry executive Jose Menendez, as well as years of “dedication to rehabilitation.”

“It’s not a question of whether they committed a crime, but that they did it,” Gascón told Morrison. “That’s about 35 years of rehabilitation under state law. Can they be released safely?

The show will also feature interviews with Pamela Bozanich, who prosecuted the brothers in 1993, and will detail the recent backlash she has faced. She told Morrison that to protect herself, she bought a shotgun, the same weapon the Menendez brothers used to kill their parents.
