Man tried to run over Fairfax officer during traffic stop, 5 people arrested: police

Five people were arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop in which a man tried to run over a Fairfax police officer, officials said.

Police said they received a report of a theft at Ace Hardware on Main Street Marketplace and identified the getaway vehicle used by the suspects. When the officer spotted and approached the car during the stop, officials said the driver accelerated in reverse, hitting and injuring the officer.

Fairfax City and Fairfax County police said they later found all five suspects, and an investigation revealed that the driver who struck the officer was in possession of drugs and a stolen gun.

Another suspect, 28-year-old Lyric Bowers, had an active warrant out of Maryland for her arrest and was charged with grand theft and violating probation, police said. Brianna Gorman Berg, 19, Carroll Hall, 41, and Donte Clayton, 34, were charged with grand theft for the Ace Hardware theft and are being held without bond, officials said.
