Even Luke Combs confuses the lyrics of his favorite songs.

The 34-year-old country musician was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance for his cover of the song. Tracy ChapmanFast car“, – admitted that one of the most awkward moments happened with this track.

During a recent concert, he remembered one mistake that still haunts him. In the concert hall TikTokhe can be heard telling the crowd that one conversation with Chapman, 60, led him to the realization that he had sung the words wrong: “We have to make a decision.” He wrote it down as “Still have to make a decision.”

“That was the first time I realized I had recorded a song wrong,” he told the crowd. “She was the one who told me this. Because I remember when she said that, I wanted to crawl into a hole.”

“Fortunately, she handled it brilliantly. And I think about it every time I sing this song, and I will think about it every time I sing this song for the rest of my life,” he said. “But she was so cool about it.”

Combs told the crowd that he was going to sing Chapman’s original lyrics and discard the recorded version.

“So the version you know is, ‘There’s still a decision to be made.’ Not words,” he said. “These are simply not the right words. I came up with it in my head.”

“So tonight I’m going to sing ‘We Have to Make a Decision.’ Because Tracy Chapman told me to, and damn it, I’ll do it.”
