SALISBURY — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and its students recently benefited from participation in Eli Lilly and Company and its annual World Day of Service.

Student participation is key to the success of service events like these, and students have participated in a variety of service events with Lilly volunteers, including a campus market (free food and pantry for students) and various civic engagement projects. A “Project Champion” was appointed to ensure student participation and success in all activities.

“We are deeply grateful for Lilly’s dedication to serving and supporting Rowan-Cabarrus,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, President of Rowan-Cabarrus. “Their volunteer efforts have had a significant impact on our campus and enhanced our ability to serve our students and the broader community.”

More than 150 participants donated their time and effort to various projects during Lilly’s World Day of Service in Rowan-Cabarrus. On North Campus, volunteers focused on campus beautification, while another group of volunteers worked on similar projects on South Campus. In addition, volunteers supported the campus market (a free food and pantry for students) on North and South Campuses.

In addition, volunteers participated in community activities, further supporting the College’s mission of promoting community engagement and growth.

Since 2008, thousands of Lilly employees in 65 countries have come together—in person and virtually—to volunteer in their communities as part of Lilly’s Global Day of Service. This day-long event prioritizes local organizations and nonprofits whose work supports the company’s mission of promoting healthy lifestyles, healthy minds and healthy communities. Many of Lilly’s World Day of Service projects focus on health, STEM education, community enrichment, food insecurity and more.
