Inter – Arsenal 1:0: match of the day experts on penalty decisions

Decision not to award Arsenal a penalty during the match Lost 1-0 to Inter Milan on Wednesday. Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said it was “weird”.

Mikel Arteta’s men were upset that home goalkeeper Yann Sommer did not award a penalty for a foul on midfielder Michele Merino.

Speaking on BBC’s Champions League Match of the Day, Warnock said: “Anywhere else on the pitch it’s a foul.”

The outcome of the match was decided by a penalty awarded to Inter Milan for a handball by Merino at the other end of the field, which was converted in time by Hakan Calhanoglu.
