JROTC Cadets Honor Military Members as part of Muskogee County Veterans Day Program

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – In honor of Veterans Day on November 11th, the Muskogee County School District JROTC program held a ceremony to honor those who served.

The annual Veterans Day program was presented Wednesday morning in the courtyard of the Columbus Public Education Center. JROTC cadets who took part in the ceremony expressed their gratitude to the veterans by singing the national anthem, laying wreaths and clapping, and sharing personal readings. During that time, more than 50 Muskogee County High School cadets were able to demonstrate their skills, reminiscent of the same journey that the men and women of the Armed Forces have endured.

“It is important for our students to first understand what this day represents,” said Muscogee County School District Superintendent Dr. David F. Lewis. “Veterans Day is meant to represent, acknowledge and recognize the sacrifices of our service members here at home and around the world, past and present.”

There are currently more than 1.4 million Americans serving our country; The ceremony was a time to pause and honor them, as Columbus is home to many veterans from Fort Moore.
