Did the Eagles send a message to their rich pass rusher?

PHILADELPHIA — Bryce Huff said he was prepared to play the entire game last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, after receiving an early snap, he remained on the sidelines until, somewhat surprisingly, he was called up to announce for some snaps late in the fourth quarter.

The pass rusher took six snaps. The cause was a wrist injury during warm-up. Huff said Thursday he is ready to play the entire game.

“The coaches had to play me the way they wanted,” he said. “I was ready to go the whole time.”

Huff, who is still struggling to live up to the hopes the Eagles had for him when they signed him to a three-year, $51 million deal in the offseason, has 1.5 sacks, nine QB pressures and just eight tackles in the season. 41 percent of matches. The defense is faltering this season.

Is the message being sent?

If that’s the case, neither head coach Nick Sirianni nor defensive coordinator Vic Fangio are giving any indication.

“He’s still in the lineup, in the forward rotation,” Sirianni said. “I have a lot of faith in him. You guys know something happened to him after his warm-up last week. That’s exactly how the game went and that’s how he felt. Yes, I have a lot of confidence in him and what he can do.”

Fangio added: “When a guy is struggling with something, you prefer to play with a guy who is a hundred percent or close to a hundred percent. And then at the end of the game, we had those two drives at the end where the guys got gassed.”

Huff said he blocked all media and fan noise by getting rid of his social media presence. “You can’t see anything outside of it, so I removed everything,” he said.

Huff said he felt his wrist get a little sore during warmups and reported it to the coaches. “It was me pushing someone,” he said. “It kind of went the wrong way. I think that has changed somehow.

After the Eagles beat the Jags 28-23, Huff declined to talk to reporters. He said Thursday that the reason for this was simply that he wanted to recover from the injury as quickly as possible.

Huff said he is 100 percent ready to play against the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday. With a groin injury limiting Nolan Smith’s opportunities in practice, Huff should get plenty of snaps. He must.
