Things to Remember Before Part 2

The Pogues will return to action Thursday afternoon for Part 2 of “Outer BanksSeason 4 will premiere on Netflix, but nearly a month after the first five episodes aired, you might need a refresher on what they’ve been up to.

At the end of the first part, the entire crew of misfits searching for the treasure is scattered, and there are several storylines to follow as you return for the second batch of episodes. JJ had just learned that his father might not be who he thought he was. Sarah and Pope are stuck in a crypt with rats and rising water levels. And the Pogs still haven’t solved the mystery of Blackbeard’s Blue Crown.

While the first installment featured some action-packed scenes, the cast and crew teased that the final scene of season four is the greatest in the series’ history. The Pogs are still on their original mission from Wes Jenrette, even after his death – a mission that will take them to Morocco.

Keep reading for a sneak peek at the five most important things to remember from Part 1 before Part 2 premieres on Thursday.

Who is JJ’s real father?

At the end of episode five, JJ delivers Wes Jenrette’s letter to his abusive, alcoholic father in hopes that he can provide more clarity. Hoping to rekindle their relationship, Luke explains some points in the letter to his son.

Luke reveals that he is not JJ’s father, but his real parents are Chandler Groff and Wes’ daughter, Larissa Jenrette, who died in an accident, meaning JJ could be the heir to the Cook fortune. JJ doesn’t believe Luke at first because of his track record, but he begins to connect the dots as to why Wes gave the Pogues the treasure challenge.

Some of the Pogues traveled to Charleston in search of Blackbeard’s Blue Crown. After drawing the straw, Sarah Cameron and Pope are tasked with going down into the crypt underneath the church to find the next clue. The pair are chased by rats and eventually encounter mercenaries (including Lightner, who killed Terrence). After hiding and successfully evading the murderous mercenaries, Sarah and Pope realize that they may be stuck in a flooded crypt after being inadvertently locked in by Lightner and his partner.

It’s pretty hard to forget this heartbreaking scene from Episode 4, but it’s important nonetheless. When the mercenaries realized that the Pogs had found the amulet, a target appeared on their backs. Lightner, arguably one of the most brutal members of the pirate crew, already tried to attack Kiara and JJ underwater earlier in the season.

In the fourth episode, Lightner kidnaps Cleo and threatens to kill her unless she can give him the amulet. It is at this point that she encounters Terrence, the father figure she believed was dead. Terrence insists he was not working with the enemy and assures Cleo that he was on her team. When the trio arrives at the Pogues’ house, Cleo struggles to find the trinket. Pope then comes home with him. When Lightner tries to kill Cleo, Terrence jumps in front of her and is shot, ultimately dying from the wound.

Rafe’s girlfriend Sofia is plotting against him

Hollis Robinson, one of the largest real estate agents on the island, convinces Rafe’s girlfriend Sophia to persuade the heir to his family’s fortune to enter into a business deal to sell Goat Island. She tells Pogue Sofia that she should “get in while she can.” She initially rejects it, but after Rafe speaks poorly of her because of her social status, she pushes him to give his fortune to a shrewd realtor. Rafe still doesn’t know about Sofia’s involvement in this scheme.

Sheriff Shupe still hasn’t found the killer.

Sheriff Shoop has always been skeptical of JJ and the Pogues, so with plenty of bodies to investigate and no suspects, he turns to the troublemakers he knows best. The sheriff has yet to identify the killer of the unidentified body on the beach and Wes Jenrette, who was strangled to death in his home. He takes JJ in for questioning and warns him that if he acts out, he will become the prime suspect.
