Artificial Intelligence Thermostats Are Built for Texas Homes to Relieve Network Stress

Three of the largest home energy automation companies in the U.S. are coming together to offer some help to Texas’ beleaguered power grid.

Electricity supplier NRG Energy Inc. is partnering with Renew Home LLC to distribute approximately 650,000 AI thermostats that use Alphabet Inc.Google Cloud technologies over the next decade. The initiative announced Thursday aims to reduce electricity demand by nearly 1 gigawatt — enough to power 200,000 Texas homes, or about 1% of the record summer demand seen this year on the state’s grid.
