Kasongo: Super Mazembe Band member cries as he remembers his dead colleagues

Why did Kasongo wa Kanema cry?

Kasongo wa Kanema appeared on Churchill’s show a few years ago and was asked how many there were when they formed the group.

The group is known for hits such as Kasongo and Shauri Yako, among others.

Kanema burst into tears, and Churchill consoled him.

“It pains me to say this. The group was founded by 13 members, but only three remain,” he said, as some onlookers fought back tears.

He said the surviving members were in Kenya and the USA.

“Everyone else is gone, but they’re not far away. Most of them are buried in Langata Cemetery.”

Kanema said that during their heyday the group was so popular that at any given time they filled the Aga Khan Hall. Kisumuand the crowd would overflow.

“I was a composer and a singer,” he said.

Unfortunately, Kanema also passed away in 2020. A 73-year-old man died at his home in Langata.

His daughter Chantal Wakanema paid tribute to her father, writing:

“Continue to rest in perfect peace, Dad.”

How did Kasongo’s song go viral?

In other news TUKO.co.ke reported that the song recently went viral after being widely shared TikTok The video shows the warthog returning to its hole.

The clip was accompanied by the voice of a man singing along to the song.

Video the man behind the viral version appeared on the Internet, causing mixed reactions.
