Parliamentary elections in Georgia will not be held again at the request of the opposition – Prime Minister

TBILISI. November 8. INTERFAX – Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze rejected the opposition’s accusations of falsification of parliamentary elections and said that new elections will not take place.

“President Salome Zurabishvili and opposition leaders, who publicly announced facts of fraud, refuse to cooperate with the prosecutor’s office and demand a re-election. This will not happen,” Kobakhidze told the press on Friday.

“The Central Election Commission will sum up the election results very soon, so the parliament will hold its first meeting, after which a government will be formed,” he said.

According to Kobakhidze, “the opposition wants to save its face in the eyes of its supporters by completely losing the elections.” “Whether the elected opposition MPs take their seats in parliament or not is their choice, but I think they will do so,” he said.

According to the Georgian Central Election Commission, the ruling Georgian Dream party won the parliamentary elections on October 26.

Opposition parties that received mandates in parliament continue to make accusations against the authorities. Four such parties refuse to recognize the results of the vote and demand a re-election.
