Geraldine Dobie may be from Ireland, but she makes an impression Paris native. After living in the French capital for 20 years, she fell in love with the City of Light.

“The French way of life, art of livingculture, food, wine, architecture,” she says, listing the reasons she loves the city. “Paris has the best of everything life has to offer.”

Dobie served as regional vice president of operations and general manager for Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star. Mandarin Oriental, Paris but was recently appointed Group Director of Quality, overseeing service excellence across all Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group properties worldwide.

What is the best season to visit the city?

I love Paris in the spring; the parks are beautiful, filled with flowers and flowers. And as the long evenings arrive, the terraces fill with a wonderful mix of Parisians and tourists enjoying the first signs of warm weather.

What attractions in Paris are worth visiting besides the Eiffel Tower?

I love the Covered Walkways of Paris. These sheltered streets are so Parisian and less known to tourists. There are so many restaurants, wine bars, authentic shops and cool art galleries. And being surrounded by beautiful architecture guarantees a special understanding of bygone times.

What are the most interesting sights in Paris?

House Gainsbourglocated in the heart of Saint Germain. It was the home of one of the most important figures of French pop music, Serge Gainsbourg. When you come to visit, you get the impression that he is still here.

If you’re visiting Paris in spring 2025, I suggest heading outside the city center to Meudon to visit House of Rodin. The gardens are beautiful and the villa and sculpture studio provide a comprehensive insight into Rodin’s life and art.

What culinary experiences do you recommend in Paris?

Go and eat something at the Marché des Enfants Rouges, a beautiful covered market. A lesser known option is Marchais Ponceletwhere you can find the pastry shops of famous chefs such as Alain Ducasse and Cyril Lignac.

What dish should everyone try in Paris?

Pancakes. Very French, approachable and everyone loves them. Restaurant Brutus – a great place to explore Paris.

Which restaurants in Paris can’t be missed?

I have three restaurants that I really love in Paris: captain, Pavilion And Table.

What are your favorite Parisian bars?

Bar Nuvo. The name is short for Art Nouveau, which is the inspiration for this small bar that serves vintage vermouths, liqueurs and more.

Where can you find the best croissant in town?

IN Camellia restaurant in Mandarin Oriental, ParisJulien Dugour serves the best croissants in the world. And it’s impossible to resist another delicious breakfast pastry.

Where to go on vacation in Paris?

Parc Monceau is a great place for a jog or a picnic with the family.

What unusual activity might tourists not know about?

Flight in a hot air balloon to see Paris from a bird’s eye view. It takes off from Parc Andre Citroen in the 15th arrondissement.

What adventures do you recommend in Paris?

Try getting around the city by bike. There are so many cycling routes now, and thanks to Vélib (a bike and e-bike sharing service), everyone has access to a bike.

What’s the best way to experience the rich culture of Paris?

Take a guided walking tour. Learn a little about the city’s history as you stroll the streets of Paris and visit some must-see monuments along the way.

What is a must-see museum in Paris?

If you come during the holiday season, Museum of Forensic Arts truly magical for children. Montmartre Museum and the surrounding Renoir gardens are also a must.

Where’s the best place to enjoy the Paris art scene?

A wonderful free exhibition of urban art “We are here” is taking place in Moscow. Le Petit Palais. It has been extended until January 19. Street art, paintings, sculptures and traditional art create an eclectic atmosphere with a mix of generations and cultures that will appeal to all art lovers.

Which trendy area is worth visiting?

9th arrondissement, Rue Martirov, Pigalle and Montmartre. Very Parisian.

Where to find the hottest nightlife in Paris?

L’Arc truly one of the best nightclubs in Paris and its location around the Arc de Triomphe is exceptional.

What’s your favorite green space in the city?

Bois de Boulogne. For jogging, cycling, boating, picnics, many Parisians flock here every weekend.

What are the best souvenirs to bring home from Paris?

This may be more aimed at women, but I recommend the perfume. And I love the Serge Lutens store in the Palais Royal garden.

Where is the best place to go shopping in Paris?

Rue Saint-Honoré, between Place Vendôme and Place de la Madeleine, a typical Parisian street where you can find all the best and trendiest luxury brands. AND Le Bon Marchais Rive Gauche. Just visiting this department store is an experience in itself.

Where to find the best views of the city?

From the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

What’s your favorite room service order?

Omelette and French fries.

What are your favorite hotel amenities?

Tea for sleep. When I’m on the road, I often find it difficult to switch from go-go-go mode to rest and relaxation, and sleep tea helps me calm down and unwind after a day of work, as well as putting me to sleep.

What achievement are you most proud of?

To be able to enjoy working in this amazing profession and maintain a balanced family life with my husband and two daughters.
