Raleigh Shooter Caught: Andrew Thomas Graney, North Carolina State University student, charged in shooting near I40

RALEIGH, North Carolina — Police arrest North Carolina State University student in connection with a dozen shootings this week on or near Interstate 40 in Raleigh.

Andrew Thomas Graney, 23, was charged Friday night with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to murder causing serious injury and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle or dwelling.

He was detained along with another person. Another person was released, his identity has not been disclosed.

Graney is a senior majoring in anthropology at North Carolina State University and has been enrolled at the school since fall 2019, according to school spokeswoman Lauren Barker.

He is being held without bail. The hearing will take place on Friday at 1:30 pm EST.

Raleigh police are still investigating to see if there are more people involved.

Police have confirmed that there have been as many as 12 separate shootings reported on Interstate 40 in or near Raleigh.

What’s happened?

Was at least 12 incidents this week in Raleigh, where cars and homes were shot at.

On Thursday RPD Chief Estella Patterson said the investigation into the shooting has not yet been completed. She’s asking for people in the area who may have information that could help investigators, especially anyone who has surveillance video that may have captured something from one of the shootings.
