Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff aims to ‘disrupt narratives’

Detroit Lions Quarterback Jared Goff was one of several players who rejected the idea that the team could struggle with the bad elements it faced in Green Bay.

However, they proved their doubters wrong with an efficient, turnover-free performance in a key road win to improve to 7-1 on the season. Goff plays at an elite level, limiting his shortcomings and helping the team ride a six-game winning streak.

This recent stretch of play and the way Goff proved his doubters wrong is symbiotic with what the team faced heading into the Green Bay game. As he has done many times since he joined Lionsthe veteran passer proved the naysayers wrong.

“It is easier to create narratives than to destroy narratives. It’s another option, like we’re an inside team, and yeah, of course we haven’t played outside yet,” Goff told NBC. “I don’t know if they’ve played in weather like this before. So who has the advantage? I don’t know. We did a great job in training, doing wet ball drills and I think we were very prepared for this weather. I had gloves on that I felt pretty comfortable in and we did a great job.”

Goff initially came to Detroit in a well-documented trade with the Los Angeles Rams, who cut him just two seasons after losing the Super Bowl. In the difficult moments that followed the deal, he relied on his father, who had experience moving places during his professional baseball career.

defender admitted that he knew that many believed that he would not be able to recover from the move. As a result, he can feel a sense of pride knowing that he has proven his doubters wrong.

“Then I get traded and that’s as difficult as it gets in this league. And they sent me away, basically, I think the thought was that I wouldn’t be able to revive after this,” Goff said. “Now I’ve been able to overcome it and I’m in a good place now. I feel good, but there were a lot of adversities and I’m proud of how I overcame them.”

Lions crime overall performed at an elite level. In addition to Goff’s success, they got strong individual starts from Jameer Gibbs, David Montgomery and Amon-Ra St. Brown, as well as the strength of their offensive line.

As a result crime has very few weaknesses and the versatility to win the game in a variety of ways.

“We have a very good offensive line, our punt positions are incredible, and of course our running backs,” quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell said. “So there are a lot of reasons why we’re still successful in the passing game. Jared will be the first to tell you that it’s about the other guys and just the fact that they’ve been together for a long time. His rapport with Saint, it doesn’t happen overnight, and it was interesting to watch.”

Goff admitted he would always be motivated by the Rams’ decision to trade him, with the biggest factor being the fact that many believed he wouldn’t be able to recapture his high level of play.

“Yeah, I think what motivates me the most is what was going to happen and how it was going to happen for me personally,” Goff explained. “I never intended to let this happen. I’m proud of how I got through it.”
