John Lynch made Deebo Samuel sweat a little with his untimely phone call It’s Tuesday, and the 49ers general manager is now expressing regret about the timing of it all.

Samuel spoke about his “Boots and Convos with Deebo Samuel” earlier this week on a podcast about how he was at the 49ers’ facility for a photo shoot when he looked at his phone and saw the big boss calling – just two hours earlier The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 1:00 pm PT.. He understandably panicked before picking up the phone.

Three days later, a very remorseful Lynch joined us. “Murph and Marcus” KNBR show in detail his side of the story and how things unfolded.

“My oldest daughter, I’m very proud of her, she works at the NFL league office in Santa Clara,” Lynch said. “She went and got the job herself, I didn’t even know about it until she got it. So they sent her to a commercial shoot with Deebo, so she came to my office and brought me coffee. It’s mid-morning and Deebo and I are pretty close so I said, “Hey Deebo, just wanted to let you know Lindsay is here and she’s doing this shoot.” And I saw that Deebo was stunned. He knows my family and didn’t say anything.

“And then, after filming, which was a few hours later, Lindsay came back to my office and said: “Dad! You can’t do this. When you called, Deebo thought he was traded. deadline.’ What a newbie for me! “I’ve been doing this for a while now, and Deebo and I laughed the rest of the week, as did a lot of the guys on the team.”

Truly a rookie mistake.

Samuel went on to explain on his podcast how nonchalant Lynch was about the phone call while the star receiver struggled to keep his cool.

He joked that Lynch even mentioned the “zebra shoes” his daughter was wearing so “you couldn’t miss her” on set. Because This what was important at the time, right?

The 1:00 pm PT deadline came and went, and after it all, Samuel was still a 49er. In addition to upsetting one of the team’s biggest stars, Lindsay was also upset with her father about another matter.

And it’s safe to say the 49ers executive has learned his lesson on all fronts.

“My daughter just got upset because I said she was wearing zebra print shoes—they were cheetah print,” Lynch said. “Deebo liked her shoes. I didn’t even think about it!

“I will never again call a player at the 11th hour at the trade deadline if I don’t do something.”
