Stating that the government should not take hasty decisions on constitutional issues, BNP acting chairman Tariq Rahman yesterday urged everyone to maintain national unity at all costs to counter any conspiracy by evil quarters.

After exchanging virtual greetings with members of the Hindu community, the BNP leader appealed to members of various religious communities not to be misled by any conspiracies or rumors being spread by Awami League comrades.

Tariqe said he believes that if political and economic empowerment of the people is ensured, no one will be able to deprive them of their freedom through any conspiracy.

He also said that the BNP believes that the interim government must succeed as its failure would be a setback for the pro-democracy and pro-Bangladesh forces.

The BNP leader said discussions and analysis are ongoing among political parties as well as within the government regarding the formation of an interim government. “Some have raised questions about why the provisional government was sworn in under the current constitution or whether it is a revolutionary government.”

Tariq, who is in London, said such issues could hamper the government’s dynamism, which could ultimately lead to a distraction from its objectives.

“So, the BNP believes that it is important to avoid making hasty decisions on issues directly related to national security or constitutional provisions. Instead, you should follow a well-thought-out and measured approach that will make it easier to deal with any future problems. “, he noted.

The BNP leader said that some differences between political parties emerged after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s regime on August 5. “But I believe that our goal is the same – to create a discrimination-free, democratic and humane Bangladesh. I don’t see any room for misunderstanding between political parties.”

The Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist Christian Front Kalyan organized an event at a women’s club in the city’s Eskaton to welcome and exchange views with members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja, which was celebrated from October 9-12.
