Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputy rescued a dog from a pond in Palm Coastalthough it was not easy for the dog, as he tried to run and elude the lawman as he approached.

Deputies responded to a pond in west Palm Coast on Saturday after someone called about a dog in distress, according to a social media post.

Once there, they found a woman who went in a kayak to try to escape but was unable to collar the dog.

Deputy Alex Wolf borrowed a woman’s kayak and another deputy pushed him into the water. As the kayak slid into the pond, Wolfe wondered what else might be in the water and said, “What luck, there’s going to be an alligator,” according to the video. Another deputy was heard saying the dog might bite Wolfe off.

The dog’s name is Elroy, the sheriff’s office said. And Elroy didn’t bite. But Elroy still managed to do it. Wolf swam his kayak to the dog, and the dog swam away. Wolfe continued his pursuit, diving into a pond to grab Elroy.

The deputy was carrying the wet dog and made his way across the pond, bringing the animal to dry land.

Officers discovered Elroy was wearing a training collar and he was turned over to animal control. Elroy and his owner were later reunited.
