Joker: Foley-a-Two was a critical and box office failure, barely breaking its $200 million budget and leaving critics asking, “Who is this movie for?” The film did have several famous fans, including Francis Ford Coppola and Quentin Tarantinowith the latter praising its deliberately provocative nature in an appearance on Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. Now Foley-a-Double is available on demand, so if you didn’t see it in theaters, you can see what all the fuss is about. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, whose social persecution led him to become the Joker in the 2019 film. Rolling Stone praised the original in a contemporary reviewwriting: “As entertainment and provocation, Joker just amazing.”

The sequel will see Phoenix reprising his role as the Joker, and the cast will include Lady Gaga as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, based on the character Harley Quinn, originally from Batman: The Animated Series. Lady Gaga too recorded a companion album entitled Harlequin. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson as a prison guard, Catherine Keener as Fleck’s lawyer, and Zazie Beetz reprising her role from the first film.

Todd Phillips Joker the films are intended to be separate films from Matt Reeves’ films. Batman franchise including Penguin series starring Colin Farrell. Adding to the confusion is the fact that Phillips and Reeves’ films are separate from James Gunn’s films. 2025 Superman moviewhich would begin the DC Universe (DCU), which itself is a reboot of the DCEU started in 2013. DC’s cinematic output is undoubtedly scattered, with standalone films, TV shows, and defunct franchises, but streaming all of that content is easy—everything DC lives on the Max, and comic book fans can get their fixes for both DC and Marvel with Disney/Hulu/Max packagewhich is available for $16.99/month with ads or $29.99/month without ads. Joker: Folie à Deux will undoubtedly appear on Max, although a broadcast date has not yet been announced. The film will also be available on Blu-Ray on December 17, including as a Collector’s Steelbook. Blu-Ray versions are available for pre-order now.
