Homeless man slapped on the wrist for beating up MTA worker

MTA employee who suffered a fractured eye socket after being hit by a homeless man on Thursday sentenced him to two years in prison, saying he must serve a maximum of seven years behind bars.

Victim Noreen Mallory, who was brutally beaten by Abdellahi Mohammed in a Wall Street subway station last Valentine’s Day, said she doesn’t believe punishments like that of her attacker will stop the underground violence.

“(The sentencing) sends the message that you can be prosecuted, detained and charged with a felony for these attacks. But will this be total containment? I doubt it,” Mallory told The Post outside Manhattan Supreme Court.

“He must serve the maximum sentence of seven years for assaulting an on-duty transit worker who was simply doing her job.”

Mohammed, a homeless Turkish man, took a plea deal – he pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, in exchange for just two years in prison.

Mallory, a 58-year-old subway station agent who was surrounded outside court by members of Transit Workers Union Local 100, recalled the harrowing attack in her victim impact statement before sentencing.

She said what started out as just another “routine day” at work turned into a nightmare.

“When the defendant hit me the last time, I was completely defenseless and could not even try to defend myself from his blow,” she said. “His intention was to hurt me. And he did it.

Manhattan prosecutors said Mallory approached Mohammed as he slept under a bench at the train station when the homeless man became enraged and began attacking her.

Mallory detailed to the court how Mohammed, 26, grabbed her by the collar and punched her in the face before eventually pushing her towards the service train – only to then throw her to the ground.

Mallory suffered a fractured left eye socket and a black eye, and said the brutal attack left her with physical, emotional and psychological suffering – unable to return to work and loss of income.

“The attack has shaken my sense of safety both in society in general and at work,” the victim said.

A black MTA worker also said Mohammed’s attack was motivated by “deep anger, hatred and misogyny,” which should have led to hate crime charges after he berated her when he was detained by two strangers. She also believes he attacked her because of her race.

Meanwhile, Mohammed, who was wearing a brown prison jumpsuit, did not apologize for the attack when given the opportunity to speak before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michelle Rodney.

Mohammed, a Turkish migrant, has a pending asylum claim and is in the Big Apple on legal parole, according to a Legal Aid Society spokesman.
