Liverpool focus on Manchester City striker as search for Mo Salah successor leads Hughes to two Prem talents

Liverpool are targeting two Premier League strikers in their search for a striker to replace Mohamed Salah – and one of them may already be giving them a boost in their title race, according to a report.

With Salah’s contract set to expire at the end of the season unless Liverpool are able to renew his terms, the club are looking in the market for potential successors to the Egypt international, who has been one of their all-time leading goalscorers.

Liverpool have been linked to a number of attackers in case Salah does leave, but it looks like they may be narrowing down their list before the New Year.

The two biggest names currently being considered are the Bournemouth player. Antoine Semeño and Brentford Brian Mbeumoin accordance with Sky News.

Semenyo scored his first goal for Bournemouth in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City. This result guarantees Liverpool first place in 10 games of the season.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes previously signed Semenyo at Bournemouth and, given his rise in form throughout 2024, could look to repeat the trick at his new club.

The alternative could be Mbeumo, who has been even more prolific this season and is second only to Erling Haaland in the 2024-25 Premier League so far.

Liverpool are looking for Semenyo and Mbeumo

The report explains that both Semenyo and Mbeumo are liked by Liverpool due to their ability to play anywhere in attack, much like Salah. Both are at the same stage in their careers as when Liverpool invested in Salah, coincidentally; Mbeumo is 25, Semenyo will reach that age in January and Salah was also 25 when he joined Liverpool in 2017.

Liverpool are now increasing their interest in the pair by studying them both, which will allow them to analyze their abilities and assess how they could fit in at Anfield.

It is unclear who, between Semenyo and Mbeumo, could be Liverpool’s main target if Salah leaves, but one option that the report downplays is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmouche.

Salah’s Egyptian compatriot has been in fine form in the Bundesliga, but Sky Sport claims Marmouche is not as high on Liverpool’s shortlist as others claim.

However, TEAMtalk can confirm that Semenyo is of interest to Liverpool, although our sources reported last month that Newcastle lead the race for the Ghana team in its current form.

We can also confirm that Mbeumo is being considered by Liverpoolalthough they will once again face competition for his signature. There were also warnings about a £50m price tag for the Cameroonian international.

Liverpool transfer overview

In other Liverpool transfer news, TEAMtalk has learned that there is growing confidence at the club that they could compete for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni..

Liverpool tried to sign the French national team player two years ago, but it was Real Madrid who lost to him. However, there is now a growing feeling that it could be provided by the reigning Champions League holders – and Liverpool would be willing to spend big money on the right target, which could well be the case.

As for other players, Liverpool have emerged as a likely suitor for one of Semenyo’s Bournemouth team-mates. Milos Kerkes identified as suitable successor to Andy Robertson in the left back position.

But on the other side of the defence, Liverpool remain wary of outside interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold, who, like Salah, is entering the final year of his contract.

Real Madrid are the leading suitors for the England international and sources suggest they think so. only one thing can stop them from signing it.
