Penn State fans sing along back roads before GameDay student show

Penn State fans sing along back roads before GameDay student show

A couple of weeks ago ex West Virginia Punter/kicker Pat McAfee led thousands of Texas Longhorn fans to sing “Country Roads, Take Me Home” during ESPN’s College GameDay show.

The College GameDay team was in Happy Valley this morning to help set the stage for a huge Big Ten matchup between No. 3 Penn State and No. 4 Ohio State. Just over an hour before show time, John Denver’s best tune played to the sounds of Penn State fans. A Pitt fan was spotted in the crowd but, as expected, did not participate. Joel Haas of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette captured the moment.

While the song is likely due to McAfee’s presence on set, it’s still a little surprising to see fans from other schools getting into it and actually knowing the words to the song. McAfee’s presence in the media industry has helped West Virginia get more attention than ever, even if he went a little overboard with some of his predictions at times. As long as he continues to do his thing, the Mountaineers will continue to be talked about on national television.
