Diego Pavia makes Hugh Freeze see ghosts and maybe get a prank too

The legend of Diego Pavia grows with every nanosecond. A living dog lives to defeat anyone and everyone who disrespects him and his team. Throughout his solitary college football In his career, he has made it his mission to beat Hugh Freeze’s team, no matter what team he plays for or what team Freeze leads. From Liberty and New Mexico State to Auburn and Vanderbilt, the results remain the same.

It was a tough game for Vanderbilt, but the Commodores came away with the win. 17-7 over the Tigers. Amazingly, this was Vanderbilt’s first win at Auburn in program history, despite playing them quite often in its SEC football history. Most of Vanderbilt’s “road” wins were in Birmingham or Montgomery. Despite this, Pavia will leave college football as a legend and now beat Frieze’s teams 3-0.

I must admit, Pavia did not play his best game. He completed just 9 of 22 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns while running the ball 12 times for 26 yards. It was a fairly clean game, with Auburn fumbling the ball only once and Vanderbilt recovering. It was a historic win for the Vanderbilt program, but also a crushing loss for Auburn. There are only 3-6 of them, but they still have to play. Alabama this season…

Only time will tell if this latest loss to Auburn will be enough to merit Freese receiving the nod.

Vanderbilt is far from a perfect football team. What Commodores lack in talent, they make up for in heart and self-belief. Part of this is the program Clark Lee is building at his alma mater, part of it is the man who plays quarterback for them. Regardless of who Vanderbilt plays, as long as Pavia is under center, the Commodores should have a chance against everyone.

With three losses on the year, 6-3 Vanderbilt is unlikely to take the field. College football playoffs. Losing to Missouri and Texas is one thing, but losing to Georgia State is another. Vanderbilt has had a ton of close games this season. Some went their own way, some went in a different direction. However, they have transformed themselves from wimps into one exciting team to follow.

I have no idea what the future holds for Pavia and his football future after this season. What I do know is that over the last few years he has made the greatest sport in the world even better so that it can be embraced at all levels. It’s not like Freese was leading Auburn; the program may simply be unfixable right now. However, the same thing was said about Vanderbilt. Now look at them. Vanderbilt is fucking awesome!

In a season that didn’t have many major upsets, Vanderbilt found itself in the midst of proving us all wrong.
