Chris Martin had a scary fall through the stage door at a show in Melbourne

Chris Martin knows how to get better quickly.

The 47-year-old Coldplay frontman fell through a trapdoor on stage while performing during the band’s last show in Melbourne, Australia. Music of the Spheres tour on Sunday, November 3rd. Martin took the time to read some of the fans’ signs in the audience and stepped back, sliding down a hole in the stage.

He shouted a sign that read, “Please sing ‘Everglow’ for my father in heaven” shortly before his fall, as many in the sold-out Marvel Stadium gasped and shouted, “Whoa!” Luckily, there was a producer under the stage who was able to help soften the fall and also help him up.

“The moment Chris Martin fell through a trapdoor right in front of me at the #Coldplay concert tonight,” a fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) next to the video it captured a shocking moment. “It’s not planned,” Martin assured fans before thanking the producer for catching him.

To his credit, he quickly returned before exclaiming, “Damn it!” and joked, “It was almost a YouTube moment.” In the video, a fan could be heard quipping, “I guess that’s what it was!” After joking with the crowd, Martin quickly moved on with the show.

The fall came less than a month after Olivia Rodrigo. fell sharply across the stage during it Guts show in Melbourne, although her downfall occurred at the Rod Laver Arena.

Martin’s downfall came after the band had to take to social media to address bad first for the grouptelling fans that bassist Guy Berryman was too ill to join them on stage at the Melbourne show.

“Thank you, Melbourne. “Tonight, for the first time in our band’s history, we played a concert without all four members on stage,” the statement reads. “Guy suddenly fell ill right before the show. Thank you for helping us get through this .”

During the performance, Martin shared the news with the audience: “I feel sorry for you guys who are waiting to meet Guy. He won’t be able to play today. We’re going to have a slightly different show and we’re going to do our best to make it amazing, and I know it’s going to be amazing because we’re in Melbourne with all of you wonderful people.”
