Apple introduces new free repair program for select iPhone 14 Plus users after camera glitch discovered

Apple has introduced a repair program to fix a camera issue affecting some iPhone 14 Plus models. Below is what happens, who is eligible, and how to check if your device is affected.

Apple says a small number of iPhone 14 Plus may have an issue with the rear camera that prevents it from showing a preview image. This issue only affects models created during the 12-month period from April 10, 2023 to April 28, 2024.

Free repair of damaged devices

If your iPhone 14 Plus is one of the affected models, Apple will repair it free of charge at an authorized service center. To find out if your device qualifies, you’ll need to enter your phone’s serial number on Apple’s support page.

How to check your phone’s eligibility

Find your serial number: Open the Settings app on your iPhone 14 Plus, tap General > About, and find your serial number.

Enter your serial number on Apple’s website: Copy the serial number by long-pressing it, then paste it into Apple’s support page to see if your device qualifies for a free repair.
Important details for the right to repair

If your iPhone 14 Plus has other damage (such as a cracked back glass) that prevents Apple from repairing the camera, you’ll need to fix those issues first, which may incur additional costs. However, the camera repair itself will be free if your device meets the requirements.

Refund for previous repairs
If you’ve already paid to have the rear camera repaired on an iPhone 14 Plus that’s part of the affected shipment, you can contact Apple to request a refund.

Apple’s repair program covers eligible iPhone 14 Plus devices for three years from the date of purchase, giving users plenty of time to have their devices inspected and repaired if needed.
