Stevens Co. residents report extensive storm damage

STEPHENS, Okla. (KSWO) – Stevens County residents woke up to severe storm activity early this morning.
Our photographer surveyed the area and found several downed power lines and damage to homes and buildings. Crews were already working, and no casualties have been reported yet. 7News’ Cole Brumbelow helped with the cleanup by speaking with some of the residents.

Denise Pierce is the daughter of a homeowner who was damaged by the hurricane.

“My mother is 81 years old, last night she heard a noise and knew there was a thunderstorm,” Pierce said, “and she was able to take a shower and cover herself with blankets and put a pad on the floor and kind of hide under it. »

David Allred, a family friend, also weighed in on the matter.

“I got a call shortly after two, I think this morning, when I got a call saying that Marsha called my mom and said that she didn’t have a roof on her house and that she could see a skylight through the roof,” Allred said, “And so we had to wait and let it pass by our house about three miles east of here before we headed here and I got here.”

Allred described what he saw when he arrived.

“The firefighters were already here, I contacted them, they came,” Allred said, “one of the firefighters, Assistant Chief David Bloodworth, came here and rescued Marsha and pulled her out.”

Pierce expressed her gratitude to the community, church and city for their support.

“The community, the church and this town of Velma are very supportive of our citizens. Especially the church members,” Pierce said, “the church members are always helpful and I’m very grateful, I’m grateful that my mother is safe and I appreciate all the work that these men and women have come to do. “

Allred did the same, thanking the community for its help.

“This community, we can’t thank everyone enough for the people that come out and help during a time like this,” Allred said.
