Head to the polls with Metro, TANK and local organizations.

Public transportation, local organizations and businesses are helping people get to the polls on Election Day, free or at a discounted rate.

Access to transportation, especially the availability of a car for households, has a significant impact on voter turnout, according to Harvard Study 2021. In the 2018 general election in Michigan, only 36% of people without a car voted, compared to 66% of people with a car.

Harvard researchers say placing more polling places in walkable areas, expanding access to absentee voting, and improving the reliability and speed of public transportation could eliminate barriers to voting for people who don’t own cars.

Free rides on Election Day can also encourage civic participation.
