ACLU to Send Lawyers and Observers to Nevada Polls on Election Day

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) — The ACLU will be sending volunteers to monitor polls and assist voters in all 17 Nevada counties on Election Day.

The ACLU of Southern Nevada announced Monday that its Voter Protection Alliance will lead “the largest mobilization of civil rights attorneys in state history.”

In a press release, the ACLU detailed that volunteers, including more than 50 attorneys and hundreds of non-attorneys, will be present to monitor election interference or voter suppression. Volunteers will also be able to help voters navigate complex voting rights issues and “lay the groundwork for potential litigation” if necessary.

The program is in partnership with Silver State Voices and the Let Nevadans Vote coalition.

The ACLU’s statement came after the Justice Department also said it would keeping a close eye on Clark County on Election Day.

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, and our election protection work is dedicated to protecting that right for everyone. We have mobilized a tremendous number of volunteers, and together with our legal team, we remain committed to defending democracy and ensuring voting rights are protected,” said ACLU of Nevada Executive Director Athar Hasibullah. “While we hope for a positive experience for all voters on Tuesday, regardless of who they vote for, we are ready to challenge any barrier that stands between Nevadans and their right to vote on Tuesday and beyond.”
