Milwaukee rally for historic voter turnout

MILWAUKEE — With just one day left until the 2024 presidential election, Milwaukeeans are rallying to make their voices heard.

Early voting efforts intensified, with residents casting ballots within the first few days, marking record turnout and a surge in civic engagement.

Local leaders and organizations are working tirelessly to maintain this momentum by encouraging residents to take a stand in what many are calling a historic election.

In the northern part of the city, the Hmong American Women’s Association (HAWA) is in full force and holding an event at the city’s Hmong Market.

“We’re really just getting people ready to go out and vote tomorrow,” said Vina Xiong with HAWA.

The organization partners with other local groups to offer resources, candidate guides and Q&As to help Hmong, Black and Latino voters make informed choices.

“This isn’t just about the Hmong community—it’s about the black and Latino communities,” Xiong said, emphasizing unity across Milwaukee’s diverse neighborhoods.

HAWA helped organize three Get Out the Vote events across the city, promoting civic engagement in an inclusive spirit.

Through HAWA’s grassroots efforts, residents find a support system that not only provides essentials such as voter information, but also addresses broader community needs through initiatives such as support for victims of domestic violence.

Supporters like Joshua Falls, a regular and active member of the African American Roundtable, joined the effort, saying, “This is important because there are so many things in our community that can be taken away.”
