Trump gets ‘equal time’ from NBC during NFL game after Harris’ SNL skit

NBK gave Donald Trump’s election campaign two free ad slots on Sunday after backlash over what the network may have ignored Federal Communications Commission“equal time” rules with Kamala Harris Saturday Night Live appearance.

The vice president took a break from her campaign stop in Michigan to fly to New York to appear at the show’s cold open with Maya Rudolph, who played the Democratic nominee this season.

The pair took a swipe at Trump, who last week wore a fluorescent orange reflective vest and struggled to get into the garbage truck during the election campaign in Wisconsin.

Her appearance comes after show creator Lorne Michaels said Hollywood Reporter last month this SNL did not approach any candidate and did not plan to do so “due to election laws and equal time provisions.”

But FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr reached out to X to claim that Harris’ appearance was a “clear and obvious attempt to evade” the government body’s television and radio regulator’s equal time rule.

“The purpose of this rule is to avoid exactly this type of partisan and partisan behavior – a licensed broadcaster using the public airwaves to influence one candidate on the eve of an election,” Carr said Saturday night.

“Unless the broadcaster offers equal time to other qualifying campaigns.”

Late Sunday, Carr cited a Federal Communications Commission rule that he said says a broadcaster must give a candidate one week to request equal time – despite SNL The clip will air three days after Election Day.

He added, “NBC structured the candidate’s SNL appearance (just hours before the election) in a way that deprived all other candidates of their week’s procedural rights.”
