Agata in Agata all the time

Indeed, both death as a concept and Death The character, played by Aubrey Plaza, cast a significant shadow over the proceedings, with Scheffer adding: “I really wanted to explore, on the scale of things, this little idea of Agatha having a son who died, something so simple and so human. And if we were going to do that, we couldn’t move quickly and freely with all the other deaths.

“Because we then introduced Death as a character, it felt like our job was to more honestly explore death and how people achieve their goals and the permanence of that. So it wasn’t me who reacted to the landscape, but I saw it as an opportunity to do something unexpected.

“People are conditioned to expect a real happy ending, and we wrote that, but it felt disingenuous. So we went for real.”
