Rogers, a lieutenant with the sheriff’s office in Clark County, Ohio, recently shared in a series of Facebook posts that he will only help those in need if they vote Republican.

Rogers and he, like the Sheriff’s Office as a whole, will have to work even harder to restore the trust of our community members,” the statement said.

For his actions, Rogers received a written reprimand for violating the department’s social media policy. However, he will continue to remain in service. In investigative documents obtained by WHIO-TV, Rogers blamed the posts on sleeping pills prescribed by his doctor.

He wrote to his supervisors: “I have no recollection of writing these messages or deleting any messages.” He explained that the sleeping pills “cause some of my messages to become ‘out of character,’ which is a documented side effect.”

In a statement for Springfield News-SunMike Young, Clark County’s chief deputy, said, “We’ve been fighting this battle for the last several months with attacks on the Haitian community and other immigrants, and we protect people’s rights and do not support behavior that is contrary. I can’t go back in time and remove this post; The lieutenant took this post and received consequences for it.”

Rogers has since deactivated his Facebook account and has apparently stopped taking sleeping pills, according to the News-Sun.
