The New York Yankees will face stiff competition for star free agent Juan Soto from several teams, including the New York Mets.

However, S.N.Y. Andy Martino reported that during MLB general managers’ meetings, “there’s definitely a sense around Soto that he enjoyed the Yankees experience and would return if the team presented what he believed was a fair offer.”

Many believe money will be the deciding factor in Soto’s decision to become a free agent as he is expected to receive a historic contract. However, Martino noted that “the idea that Soto will simply go to the highest bidder, no matter what, seems too simplistic.” However, the Yankees will have to pay him what he’s worth, as the 26-year-old “has a responsibility to future generations of free agents to continue to raise salaries.”

Martino noted that this gives the Mets a chance to make a deal Soto can’t refuse.

“The team has the ambition, resources and salary flexibility to give Soto the best offer,” Martino said of the Mets. “There is a huge amount of reasonable speculation that they are planning to do this. “I definitely got the impression that the Mets are willing to be very aggressive financially here.”

Soto further increased his star power in his first year in New York, helping the Yankees reach the World Series for the first time since 2009. His agent Scott Boras said he would do it. prioritize “winning” when considering his options as a free agent, but it is clear that it would take a massive deal to land him this winter.

Soto’s decision could shape the MLB landscape for years to come, as he will be critical to whatever team he signs this offseason.
