Smoke alarms are not working in a Nantucket home where a fire killed a man, a fire marshal says.

No working smoke alarms were found in the Nantucket home. where a man died and a dog was rescued on TuesdayState Fire Marshal John Davin’s office said.

Firefighters responded to the home at 6 Green Meadows Road around 7:30 p.m. according to the Nantucket Fire Department.. During a search of the home, firefighters found one person inside the home and transported him from the building and then to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Davin’s office said in a statement.

The man later died in hospital.
