DACA and Undocumented Applicants | How to apply | Admission to Bachelor’s Degree

This information is intended for DACA applicants, but we understand that students may have different immigrant statuses. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions, along with our enrollment partners such as the Office of Financial Aid and the University Registrar, are always here to help applicants and DACA students access all available financial resources and manage any renewal processes.

Application Checklist

  2. You don’t need a Social Security number to use any app, so you can leave this field blank.
  3. When asked about citizenship status, select the option “DACA, Undocumented, Deferred Enforced Departure, Temporary Protected Status.”
  4. We are a testing optional facility. If you wish to provide test scores, you may provide self-reported standardized test scores during the application process. Admitted students will be required to provide official test scores if they self-reported their scores.
  5. Submit payment of the $75 application fee or select any of the applicable fee waiver options in the Common Application.

Costs, rewards and financial assistance

DACA students are asked to complete FAFSA And CSS profile be considered for financial assistance based on need. W&M has a long-standing commitment to accessibility for Virginians. All our candidates are considered for three awards based on merit which are awarded by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If you have questions about financial aid, please contact your financial aid consultant.

In-State Tuition Eligibility

DACA students and students with other immigrant statuses may qualify for in-state tuition. In-state and out-of-state tuition fees are determined by the University Registrar’s Office, which advises SCHEV recommendations. To qualify for status in the state, a person (or parent, legal guardian, or financial support spouse) must demonstrate Virginia residence and intent to remain in Virginia indefinitely to establish Virginia domicile and then maintain residence in Virginia for at least 12 months preceding the first day of classes. Under special circumstances, the Virginia residency code allows us to consider a dependent student’s residence separate from that of the student’s parents when appropriate. Under current SCHEV regulations, undocumented students cannot obtain permanent residency in Virginia. For those who are not eligible to complete the FAFSA

Virginia Alternative State Assistance (VASA) is intended for use by aid applicants who are non-immigrant, undocumented, have DACA status, or are otherwise ineligible to file a FAFSA and wish to be considered for public assistance or W&M need-based assistance programs. The form is not used to determine residency, but only for assistance liability purposes. The process of determining the place of residence in the registry office remains the same.
