El Tiger murder suspect appears in Miami-Dade court

MIAMI – A man is suspected of murdering popular Cuban reggaeton musician El Tiger is behind bars in South Florida after being arrested in New York.

Damian Valdez Galloso appeared in court Thursday morning charged in the death of El Tiger, whose real name was Jose Manuel Zaldivar.

On Wednesday, when detectives took Galloso to jail, he did not react when asked if he was guilty.

Earlier this week, police took Galloso into custody in New York. He was later flown to Miami and was seen arriving at Miami International Airport on Wednesday.

Last month, El Tiger was found shot to death in the back seat of an SUV near Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. After spending several days on life support, he later died.

Miami-Dade police also served a search warrant at a home in Hialeah in connection with the murder case.

Cellphone video from a neighbor shows police investigating the home.

At the moment, it is still not clear what the motive for the murder could be.

Galloso was not given bail, so he will remain behind bars awaiting trial.
